This paper will focus on the immediate benefit of vibration engineering for the ship designer: to have at hands rational assessment criteria to decide between design alternatives.
The aim of paper is how to design ship engine-room by minimizing forced vibration under natural and forced vibration analysis.
However, in outlining the vibration engineering strategy for a new project following aspects should be addressed:
- What is the reasonable scope of vibration analysis?
- How to ensure that the results are available early enough to be considered in the final design?
- How far other design criteria can be compromised in realizing modifications from a vibration point of view?
